Hope for the Week

"The only thing we have to fear is … fear itself.".....Franklin D. Roosevelt 1933

What is Fear? Websters dictionary defines fear as: "An unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger," "anxious concern," or "profound reverence and awe especially toward God." I listed all three definitions because the fear of God is the only fear the Bible tells us we should have. Before we look at the fear that we shouldn't have, let's look at the fear we should have. Fear of God isn't necessarily being afraid of God, even though He is all powerful, but rather a respect for God. In fact, if we live our lives according to His word, we will find that not only do we live our best lives, but we find that He is a loving, faithful father that longs to give us that life that is more abundant. He's a friend that sticks closer than a brother, a great help in the time of trouble, and He will never leave us nor forsake us. "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"   Romans 8:31

That is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. The Bible tells us 365 times to fear not. That's once a day. Do you think that is a coincident? Me neither. Fear is nothing more than a tool, an emotion used by Satan to paralyze us into doing what he wants, which usually means not doing anything. There is nothing more useless in the Kingdom of God than a Christian that is too afraid to step up and step out for God. Afraid of what people might say or think. Afraid of how it may affect their job. Some are afraid do anything in the church because it might affect their standing in the church or community. "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."    2Timothy 1:6-7  The Bible tells us right there that the fear that lives inside of us doesn't come from God. So, if we can't serve two masters, who do you think you serve by allowing fear to control your life? Don't let fear of the unknown or the future keep you from living the spirit-filled life that God has for you. How do you conquer fear and anxiety? Philippians 4:6 gives us the answer: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." Just like as a child would when they get scared of what's under the bed, they run to the father to chase away their fears. Also, as with a child, we will find that there is nothing to be afraid 0f especially when the Father is in the room. I had an aunt that was a dear Christian woman, however, if she didn't have something to worry about, she would become extremely worried. If you happen to be a worrier at heart, then turn your fear  into the healthy fear. "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28 In other words, if you have accepted Christ as your savior, who has the power to save you from Hell, then there is no need to fear anyone or anything that doesn't!

Don't worry, be happy and have an awesome week,
